Detective Division
Forensic Investigations

A critical aspect of investigative work is processing crime scenes and collecting, documenting, and preserving physical evidence. The Greenwich Police Department draws on the expertise of a special team of forensics professionals and an advanced Forensics lab to expedite and enhance crime-solving efforts.

The Forensics Section utilizes state-of-the-art tools, equipment and techniques to analyze crime scenes and assist with investigations. Forensic analyses range from processing latent fingerprints, blood or DNA evidence and traces of bodily fluids, hairs, and fibers, to collecting evidence from digital media sources, such as computers and cell phones. Crime scenes are processed with strict adherence to judicial guidelines, standards set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and Federal best practices.

Members of the Forensics Section, including a Detective Sergeant and three Detectives, have extensive experience in Forensics, as well as advanced degrees and specialized training in relevant subject areas.

In the highly technical and ever-changing field of Digital Forensics, the Forensics Section participates in and collaborates with the Technical Investigation Unit of Southwest Connecticut (TIU). The TIU is a 10-agency ad hoc task force established by the Stamford State’s Attorney to examine digital evidence, investigate cybercrimes, and collaborate on cases involving large amounts of digital evidence.
