Peter J. Tesei

Peter J. Tesei was elected First Selectman of the Town of Greenwich, Connecticut in November of 2007 capturing 66% of the vote. He was re-elected in 2009 by a 66% plurality garnering 800 more votes than in 2007, re-elected in 2011, and 2013 with a 71% and 73% plurality. In 2015, Peter was elected to a 5th term with a 75% plurality.

Prior to serving as First Selectman, Peter worked in the financial services sector for close to twenty years, serving as a Vice President of the Wealth Management Group of BNY/Mellon.  On December 5, 2005, he was recognized by the Fairfield County Business Journal as one of 40 under 40 business leaders demonstrating achievement and promise.

As a volunteer, Peter Tesei served the Town of Greenwich on the Board of Estimate and Taxation for 10 years, 1998 -2007, serving as Chairman for six years. During his tenure he was Board Clerk, Vice Chairman and member of the Budget Committee.

Peter was elected the youngest member in the history of the Representative Town Meeting in November 1987 at the age of 18. He served as the District 9 (Pemberwick/Glenville) Delegation Vice Chairman and Chairman during his tenure, 1988 -1997.

Peter has served as a Board member of the United Way of Greenwich, American Red Cross Greenwich Chapter and is currently a member of the Board of the Greenwich Council of Boy Scout’s America, Greenwich Symphony Orchestra, American Red Cross Metro CT/NY and serves on the Advisory Boards of The Breast Cancer Alliance and Community Centers Inc.

Peter is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.  On September 19, 2008, he was honored by UCONN, for demonstrated leadership and achievement as one of 40 under 40 outstanding Alumni. In 2015 Peter was honored by UJA Greenwich for community leadership and working to improve the lives of residents.

During Peter’s tenure as First Selectman he has worked together with the Board of Estimate and Taxation and Representative Town Meeting to keep Greenwich’s tax rate at a modest and predictable level while ensuring quality of life services; life safety, education and public infrastructure renewal as priorities. Peter believes Greenwich’s greatest strength are the citizens who volunteer countless hours to keeping Greenwich an enviable place to live , work and raise a family.

Peter is a 5th generation Greenwich resident. He and his wife, Jill are the proud parents of a daughter, Caroline and a son, James; both attend the Greenwich Public Schools.
