At its May 30, 2017, the Board of Selectmen voted to appoint a Committee to continue review of the Town Charter in regards to the Board of Education.
The Committee (with their party affiliations) is comprised of
• Bill Finger (D)
• Brian Peldunas (R)
• Barry Rickert (U)
• Peter von Braun (R)
• Alexis Voulgaris (U)
This is the charge for the Committee which shall report back to the Board of Selectmen:
Specifically, the Committee is charged to “review a proposal to add the Board of Education to Section 66 and 67 of the Town Charter. In particular, the establishment of a committee to consider a requirement that any change to the mode of selection, composition, rights, powers, privileges or duties of the Board of Education require a referendum.”
While this review is conducted by the Committee, known as the Board of Selectmen Board of Education Section 66/67 Charter Revision Committee, the original issue regarding the review of Section 38 of the Town Charter and the election and composition of the Board of Education is on hold.
