TOWN AGENCIES & COMMISSIONS

Board of Health:
Provides essential public health services and guidance to local health providers in an effort to prevent disease, premature death, illness and disability in the Greenwich population.

Board of Parks and Recreation:
Mission is to pursue and promote a standard of excellence in the development of comprehensive park systems and quality facilities which encourage diverse recreational opportunities and the preservation of natural resources.

Conservation Commission:
An advisory board set up under State Statute and local ordinance to assist the Town with planning and management of its natural and cultural resources.

Flood & Erosion Control Board:
The Board is authorized to plan, construct, and manage flood and erosion control systems.

Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Agency:
Protects citizens by making provision for the protection, preservation, maintenance and use of the inland wetlands and watercourses.

Planning & Zoning Commission:
Responsible for zoning standards throughout the Town. Responsibilities include preparing a long-range plan for future development and recommendations for the most desirable use of the land within the Town.

Shellfish Commission:
Provides recreational shellfishing for the inhabitants of Greenwich by overseeing the resource that consists of hard and soft-shell clams, razor clams, mussels, oysters and slipper shells.


TOWN WORKING COMMITTEES

Coastal Resources Advisory Committee:
Advises the First Selectman on the development of the Waterways Management Plan, the protection and enhancement of coastal habitat and water quality, and the recreational and commercial uses of coastal waters.

Energy Management Team:
Works to improve energy efficiency for Town operations by categorizing energy usage, developing and implementing monitoring procedures, recognizing energy management programs and identifying and helping to secure financing.

Go Greener Greenwich:
The mission is to increase Greenwich community participation in green living practices in order to protect human health, environmental health, and fiscal health.


LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS

Audubon Greenwich:
Mission is to further the protection of birds, other wildlife and their habitats through science, education, advocacy and conservation, for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity.

Bruce Museum:
The Bruce Museum promotes the understanding and appreciation of Art and Science to enrich the lives of all people.

Calf Island Conservancy:
Calf Island Conservancy, Inc. works in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to promote beneficial public uses and habitat enhancement on Calf Island.

Garden Education Center:
The Garden Education Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting horticulture, conservation and the arts through educational outreach activities and special events.

Green Fingers Garden Club:
The aim of this club shall be to increase the knowledge of horticulture, to develop the art of flower arrangement, to further the ideas of conservation, and to work for the development of civic projects.

Greenwich Green & Clean:
Founded in 1986 to clean up Greenwich Avenue. The group has works to clean and beautify the town through cleaning and planting projects as well as education campaigns. Contact Greenwich Green & Clean at: 113 Pemberwick Rd., Greenwich, CT 06831 (203) 531-0006

Greenwich Land Trust:
The Greenwich Land Trust is dedicated to preserving land permanently in its natural state for the benefit of this and future generations.

Greenwich Recycling Advisory Board:
GRAB works with the Greenwich Department of Public Works on all issues pertaining to recycling in within the Town. Contact GRAB at: Daviesally@aol.com

Greenwich Tree Conservancy:
The Greenwich Tree Conservancy was created to preserve and enhance the tree and forest resources of Greenwich, Connecticut to benefit the community, its health and its quality of life.

Hortulus:
Mission is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening and creative design; to protect, restore and improve the quality of the environment through education, programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement.

Junior League of Greenwich:
The JLG is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

League of Women Voters Greenwich:
A multi-issue organization whose mission is to encourage the active participation of citizens in government and to influence public policy through education and advocacy.

Mianus River Watershed Council:
Mission is to 1) initiate and coordinate efforts for land and water protection in the Mianus River Watershed; 2) act as land managers and stewards in the Lower Mianus River Watershed; 3) educate people about the Watershed.

Soundwaters:
Mission is to educate children and adults about the wonders and beauty of Long Island Sound and its watershed, providing people with an understanding of the changes they can make in their lives and communities to restore, protect and preserve Long Island Sound and the Environment.


COUNTY OR STATE ORGANIZATIONS

CT Department of Environmental Protection:
Mission is to conserve, improve and protect the natural resources and environment of the State of Connecticut in such a manner as to encourage the social and economic development while preserving the natural environment and the life forms it supports in a delicate, interrelated and complex balance, to the end that the state may fulfill its responsibility as trustee of the environment for present and future generations.

CT Fund for the Environment:
Connecticut Fund for the Environment is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and improving the land, air and water of Connecticut and Long Island Sound.

CT League of Conservation Voters:
The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) is a bipartisan, statewide, nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting Connecticut's environment by making it a priority for our elected leaders.
