The Independence Day Association of Greenwich was created to reinforce the patriotic meaning of the Fourth of July, promoting the historical significance of the holiday in the minds of the children of Greenwich. The Daughters of the American Revolution have been joined in this effort by the Sons of the American Revolution, the Children of the American Revolution, the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, children attending public and private schools, and local Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops. We gather on the steps of Greenwich Town Hall annually on July 4th to raise the first American flag, parade the flags of the original thirteen colonies, read passages from the Declaration of Independence, honor the Greenwich citizens who fought and died in the Revolutionary War, and present our Good Citizen Awards to deserving young people.
