
Storm Recovery and Cleanup Information
8:00pm Sunday, April 15, 2007: Severe local flooding of streams, ponds and watercourses continue throughout the down due to heavy rainfall. Many roads are impassible. Residents should not drive unless absolutely necessary.
Some residents in Pemberwick and Cos Cob are being evacuated from their homes due to flooding.
The Town and Red Cross have opened a shelter at Eastern Middle School, 90 Hendrie Avenue. Residents who have nowhere else to go can respond there. There are no pets allowed in the shelter. For further information, the Red Cross can be contacted at 869-8444.
Except for emergency travel, residents should avoid driving in town as many roads are closed due to flooding. East Putnam Avenue is currently closed at Hillside Road.
The storm is anticipated to continue with more rain and winds until at least 1:00am Monday. The local flooding conditions are expected to continue throughout the evening and into the morning.
Residents should keep abreast of their neighborhood circumstances and self-evacuate if necessary. Should you become trapped in your house, dial 9-1-1.
Town school busses will not be running for private schools on Monday Morning. Check with your individual school.
