The Greenwich Department of Social Service's mission is to protect and promote the welfare of the most vulnerable individuals in the community through support and services of the highest quality that maximize competency, independence, and quality of life.
Department goals are to: provide for basic human needs; maintain the integrity of families; strengthen residents; self-reliance and self-sufficiency; and promote positive social development and emotional adjustment for residents unable to access these services elsewhere.
The Department's target populations include Greenwich's residents; children and youth at risk of poor social or emotional adjustment; residents experiencing declining abilities due to age and health conditions; those with intellectual disabilities and chronic mental illness; and those of limited income and physical and medical needs, whose needs are not fully met by other agencies.
The Department services are provided by trained social workers, mental health counselors, and case managers, and are aimed at maintaining the integrity of families; strengthening residents' self-reliance and self-sufficiency; and promoting positive social development and emotional adjustment for residents unable to access these services elsewhere.
All residents with social service questions are encouraged to call 622-3800 for:
- Information or referral to public and private programs and benefits
- Help making difficult decisions concerning family members who may need care, support, or treatment
- When concerned about possible abuse, exploitation, or neglect, including dangerous self-neglect, of self, home, or others.
All requests for services must go through Central Intake. Residents can call 622-3800 or walk-in.
