Jan. 21: Last H1N1 Vaccination Clinic The Greenwich Department of Health will be offering the last H1N1 Clinic to all persons 6 months and older on Thursday January 21, 2010 from 3:00-6:00 PM in the Town Hall Meeting Room, first floor of Town Hall. All children under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or guardian present. Pregnant women are required to have a written prescription from their medical provider. Director of Health Caroline Calderone Baisley stated that, "at this time it appears that the number of influenza cases and flu-like illnesses are steady and normal for this time of year. In addition, many people who wanted protection against the H1N1 viruses have already received their vaccination. Should H1N1 influenza activity increase in the community indicating a third wave of the virus the Department will take action and offer more public clinics. For now, January 21, 2010 will be the last scheduled clinic."

The Department hopes that people will find time to get immunized during this window of opportunity when the number of cases is down. Director Baisley stated, " The Department has offered 6 H1N1 clinics thus far giving everyone an ample opportunity to get immunized. Over the last several weeks participation at the clinics have been down indicating, I hope, that everyone has been immunized."
In offering the Influenza A (H1N1) injectable "flu shot" vaccine to the general public, the Department emphasizes that persons in groups like pregnant women, household contacts with infants less than 6 months of age and persons who have medical conditions such as diabetes and asthma especially get vaccinated. In addition, all children under the age of 10 will require two doses of vaccine to achieve immunity. Since H1N1 vaccine cannot be withheld for the second dose, those who have already received their first dose of the vaccine should be getting their second dose if 30 days has passed. Parents are reminded to bring their child's vaccination record card with them when coming to the clinic.
The Department of Health plans to hold any re-ordering of H1N1 vaccine from the Connecticut Department of Public Health until such time when H1N1 activity increases in the community. Residents are reminded to also check with their health care providers for vaccine availability.
For up to date information on any scheduled H1N1 clinics, residents are encouraged to check the influenza hotline at 203-622-3774. More information on H1N1 is located on the Greenwich Department of Health website.
