News:

Mosquitos Test Positive for West Nile in Greenwich
The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program announced that Culex pipiens mosquitoes trapped in Old Greenwich on August 9, 2007 have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). These are the first positive mosquitoes identified by the Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station (CAES) in Greenwich this year. In addition to Greenwich, positive mosquito pools have been found in Danbury, Manchester, Newington, Stamford and West Haven Connecticut. The Culex pipiens mosquito is generally a bird and mammal biting mosquito which breeds in artificial containers like discarded tires, birdbaths and catchbasins. The State Mosquito Management Program continues to trap and test mosquitoes at three site locations in Greenwich as part of their program, which will continue through the fall. In addition two people, a resident of Danbury and a resident of New London, were diagnosed with WNV-related illness last month.
