One Pair at a Time
Annual Sneaker Recycling Flyer
The Greenwich Recycling Advisory Board is pleased to report the success of the fourth annual used sneaker collection which ran from mid-March through April 2009. This year’s haul totaled 3,980 lbs which translates to more than 5,000 pairs. And that doesn’t include the hundreds of better quality shoes which were passed on for reuse through Neighbor to Neighbor and other outlets.
Not only are sneakers being kept out of the waste stream, they are ground up by Nike and used for athletic tracks, playground surfaces and basketball courts. We greatly appreciate the community’s commitment to recycling – let’s keep stepping in the right direction!
