This Division enforces the Connecticut State Building Code and issues building permits for

• Construction and alterations of all buildings
• Swimming pools
• Tennis courts
• Signs
• Special events
• Demolition of buildings

This building permit does not include zoning approval. There is a separate zoning permit issued by the Zoning Enforcement Officer which is a part of the Planning and Zoning Office. This zoning permit must be obtained prior to filing an application for a new building permit or prior to filing an amendment to an issued building permit. Trade permits, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) are also issued by this office.

Inspections are made by building, electrical, plumbing and HVAC inspectors at critical stages of construction to ensure compliance with all applicable codes.

The Building Official enforces all state and local codes and ordinances governing the construction of buildings and other structures, including all mechanical and electrical systems contained within.
