Neighborhood Resource Program
In June 2004, under the command of Chief James A. Walters, the Greenwich Police Department began its initiative to become a more proactive and pro-community organization.
In an effort to accomplish this task, it was necessary to create a community policing environment which would involve a joint partnership with the citizens and community groups to tackle current problems and address issues of concern in the community.
In September 2005, three (3) new Sergeant's positions were added to provide additional supervision and community outreach efforts.
In addition, three (3) police officers were assigned as Neighborhood Resource Officers, assigned to each of the three sectors. These officers, working under the direction of the Sector Commanders, will proactively address specific problems in each Sector.
The creation of these positions was made possible by the move to civilian dispatchers, which allowed for the reassignment of Police Officers to Patrol operations.
Through this program, the department can be more proactive within the community to address matters of concern, as well as improving our relationship with our residents and establishing better lines of communication.
