General Information
The Department of Parks and Recreation is comprised of a team of recreation professionals
who provide high quality leisure opportunities. The team fosters a sense of community spirit and
civic responsibility through the use and preservation of the Town's natural resources
for the enjoyment of current and future generations.
The Department of Parks and Recreation was established on January 9, 1971, by a home-rule
amendment approved by the Representative Town Meeting on April 27, 1970. The Department reports to
the First Selectman.
The primary responsibilities of the Department is to provide leadership, planning and direction in identifying, implementing and administering the finance, personnel, areas and facilities that are made available for leisure services. The primary objective of the Department, in cooperation with other private and public agencies and departments, is to create wholesome and beneficial use of leisure for all Greenwich residents through recreational opportunities in our parks, programs, and facilities.

The Recreation Division is responsible for the implementation and supervision of both
active and passive recreation programs and leisure programs. The Division has several operating
segments including Organized Recreation, Senior Services and Specialized Recreational Facilities.

The Marine and Facility Operations Division is accountable and responsible for all municipal beaches,
ferry services, off-shore islands, boating facilities, harbors, use of and traffic in the waters of Long Island Sound
and elsewhere, subject to the jurisdiction of the Town of Greenwich.
The division is responsible for the planning, construction, development, service, maintenance,
alterations, repair and storage of all physical properties under the control of the Department of
Parks and Recreation.

The Parks and Trees Division is charged with the maintenance of all parks, playgrounds, traffic circles, cemeteries, roadside trees, and public grounds under the jurisdiction of other departments of the Town as well as Greenwich Point, Island Beach, and Captain's Island which is under the management of the Marine and Facility Operations Division of the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Services offered by this Division:
- Maintain all Town parks as well as fire stations, libraries, passive natural park preserves, traffic islands and abandoned cemeteries
- Removal of leaves, ice, snow and maintenance of all recreation areas
- Provide quality grounds maintenance service, including landscaping, of all park playgrounds
- Planting of sidewalk containers plus hanging baskets
- Care and maintenance of all trees on public property and Town roadsides and enforcement of state and local laws in connection with trees and plantings on Town properties

The only municipal golf course for the use of Greenwich residents and their guests.
The facility has 18 holes (par 71), driving range, pro shop, restaurant and locker facilities.
Season is mid-March through mid-December, weather permitting. Membership cards are required.
