Parks and Recreation

Athletic Field Application Policy

Thank you for your interest in using Town of Greenwich athletic fields for your sports leagues or special event. Please read this information sheet "carefully" to avoid delays in granting your request.

The Department of Parks and Recreation makes field permits available to residents and Town organizations for baseball, soccer and softball games. Normally, the permit season runs from late April through late October.

The Department sponsors leagues involving well over 200 teams. As a result, weeknight fields are difficult to obtain. During peak season, only secondary fields are available such as Central Middle School, Western Middle School and Glenville School.

How to Obtain a Field Permit

  • For a one-time resident field request, request should be made in writing, "Attention: Fields." Mail to The Department of Parks and Recreation, P.O. Box 2540, Greenwich, Connecticut 06836-2540. Include the date you are requesting and field you are interested in (second choice as well). There will be a $25.00 fee for each date reserved, payable to the "Town of Greenwich" when you request your permit. Allow at least two weeks for processing. Include contact name, telephone number and convenient time to call during the workday. There is a limit of two (2) requests per person or organization per year.

  • For non-Parks and Recreation programs on ALL Town fields, applicants can pick up an application packet or have one mailed from Parks and Recreation. Applications for Spring/Summer scheduling are available in January. Applications for Fall are available starting in May. Permits will only be issued for field use after all requested information is supplied by the applicant. There is a $13.00 user fee for each participant, excluding scholarships. Parks and Recreation will schedule, by permit, ALL Town fields.

  • For PTA and school sanctioned events, e.g., road races, fairs, field days, etc., approval must first be received from BOTH the school principal and then the Board of Education Facility Manager. Initial application is made on the Application For Contract To Use School Fields (the standard Board of Education Rental Form). This application form should be submitted to the school principal for his approval. The school principal will forward this application to the Board of Education Facility Manager who will approve and send to Parks and Recreation Field Rental Office (Attention: Donald Mohr), or deny and contact applicant. Applicant will then be contacted to fill out a Special Events Application Packet if necessary. Established fees will be charged, including event supervision, if necessary.

  • Special Events Application on Town Fields
*Non-School Sanctioned Events - Special Events Application packet is available from Parks and Recreation Field Rental Office. Complete application and return to Parks and Recreation Office. Established fees will apply, including supervision, if necessary.

  • Application for commercial filming on Town park properties $250.00 per day use fee. Contact the Health Department at 622-7838 for application forms. Allow 2 weeks for processing and scheduling.

Regulations Governing Field Permits

  1. Permits must be picked up.
  2. Permits must be in possession of a member of your group at the field. They are not transferable.
  3. Keg beer is only allowed with the obtaining of an additional permit, specifically for this purpose. This must be requested in writing.
  4. Fields will be left the way they were found. Trash receptacles are available at all fields.
  5. Field permit holders and their guests use the fields at their own risks.
  6. In the event of rain, there is no automatic rain date. If you had a special permit, we will help you reschedule as best we can.
