PARKS & RECREATION TEAMS UP WITH POSITIVE COACHING ALLIANCE TO ENHANCE YOUTH SPORTS

As part of a targeted effort to provide the most positive environment possible for its youth athletes, Greenwich Parks & Recreation is sponsoring a workshop on March 28 to help parents and coaches enrich youth sports for children.   The workshop, entitled “Double-Goal Coach:  Coaching for Winning and life Lessons” will be provided by Positive Coaching Alliance, a Stanford University-based non-profit organization developed to teach parents, coaches and organizational leaders how to effectively work with young athletes while instilling the values of teamwork, discipline, respect and goal-setting.

The interactive workshop begins by defining the Double-Goal Coach as one who strives to win and works to prepare his/her team to play at its highest level, and, at the same time, teaches life lessons (teamwork, dedication, bouncing back from mistakes, etc.) to his/her players.

“Working with hundreds of youth sports organizations around the United States, we've developed practical tools and guidelines to help youth athletes, their coaches and parents realize that winning is not only reflected in game scores but also in the effort players give, the learning and improvement they achieve, and the ability they develop to bounce back from mistakes,” said Jim Thompson, founder and director of Positive Coaching Alliance. “  For more information about Positive Coaching Alliance, please visit www.PositiveCoach.org

The PCA Workshop entitled “Double Goal Coach:  Coaching for Winning and Life Lessons” on Tuesday, March 28 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, 90 Harding Road in Old Greenwich is open to all parents, youth sport coaches and administrators.  Every participant will receive a copy of the Power of Double-Goal Coaching book from PCA Executive Director, Jim Thompson.   The workshop is FREE for all but please pre-register at ssnyder@greenwichct.org.   For more information on Greenwich Parks and Recreation programs, please visit www.GreenwichCT.org/government/departments/parks_and_recreation/

Important Notice from the Town Of Greenwich
Water Faucet
The Town of Greenwich Board of Selectmen adopted new water restrictions that focus on restricting water use for outdoor irrigation and are in keeping with the Emergency Water Supply Order recently issued by the CT Department of Public Health. The new restrictions recognize that reservoir levels are improving but are still below average.
