The Nathaniel Witherell Volunteers are members of the greater Greenwich community who have responded to the call to enrich the lives of our residents. They recognize that their presence enhances the care experience of our community's seniors, and they receive great satisfaction from being able to improve the quality of living for our residents. Volunteers learn quickly that this is a very friendly facility, and their contributions are valued.
Staffed by a full-time Coordinator, and with a membership of approximately 100 volunteers, the group supports numerous activities, such as
- Gift Shop
- Care of plants in residents' rooms and throughout the facility
- Escorting residents to Physical Therapy
- Providing administrative assistance to nursing stations
- Decorating the facility for Christmas
- Assisting recreation staff with program delivery
- Escorting residents to the beauty salon
- Making available five weekly worship services
- Art shows
- Current Events programs
- Administration/Admissions office help
- Daily Newspapers
- Pets for Pet Therapy
- One-on-one resident visits
- Music programs
- Horticultural Therapy
Volunteers are an integral part of most recreational activities.
The Witherell Times, produced by the Volunteers, is an in-house monthly newspaper that keeps residents, families, staff, visitors, and volunteers current on all new residents, birthdays, activities, important events and news, and special services. It also includes puzzles, an advice column, resident writing, and a horoscope.
We are always in need of new volunteers to help out in any of the areas outlined above. Volunteers are needed weekday mornings and afternoons, as well as weekend afternoons. Call Sally Van Leeuwen, Volunteer Coordinator, at 618-4228 to discuss any of the opportunities available.
