The Nathaniel Witherell Nursing Home

Medical Services: 20 physicians who are on the staff at Greenwich Hospital provide medical services. A resident can change a physician at any time and, in certain circumstances, a non-participating physician may continue services to a resident. Usually, physicians come to The Nathaniel Witherell for visits. Dental, Audiology, Ophthalmology, and Podiatry services are also available on site by appointment. Please click here for a list of physicians.

Frank Walsh, MD, who has been on staff at The Nathaniel Witherell for many years, became its Medical Director in 2008. His focus is on assisting The Nathaniel Witherell in its growth and clinical development.

Nursing Care: Comprehensive skilled nursing care is provided 24 hours every day of the year for residents. Our nursing staff has Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nursing Assistants. We also have three Assistant Directors of Nursing who serve as shift supervisors in addition to other duties. We have two Special Service Registered Nurses, one specializing in Infection Control and Staff Development and the other specializing in Care Planning. Our Registered Nurses are specially trained in Medicare, Quality Assessments, Resident Care Planning, Infection Control, and Staff Development. All supervisory staff has at least ten years experience at The Nathaniel Witherell.

We develop an individual resident care plan for each resident. Families are invited to care plan meetings, which afford valuable insight into how and why each care plan is created. Interdisciplinary care-planning meetings are held on a regular basis to enhance communication between families and staff. Because many families are unfamiliar with government insurance reimbursements, The Nathaniel Witherell is eager to provide administrative guidance on the complex processes of government and insurance reimbursements.

Our nursing staff is unique in qualifications, experience, and staffing patterns. Unlike other facilities, The Nathaniel Witherell has organized its nursing staff to create a free-floating supervisor on all shifts. This senior staff member is available at all times to respond to residents' needs and family concerns. The Certified Nursing Assistants have permanent assignments to enhance the relationship between resident and staff. In addition, Witherell is one of only a few facilities in Connecticut with a Certified Nurse in Wound Care.

If you wish to learn more about the unique, highly qualified nursing staff, please call Lynn Bausch, Director of Nursing, at (203) 618-4226, or arrange a visit to talk with members of our nursing staff.
