Activities are relevant and valuable to residents' quality of life. A broad array of therapeutic programs is presented through a full-time staff of recreation and music therapists, under the direction of Mary Bruce. At admission, an individualized assessment of each resident is made, so that appropriate opportunities are available to help enhance that resident's self-esteem and dignity. The staff seeks to maximize each resident's individual capabilities, as well as to stimulate and entertain them.
Weekly offerings range from classes on movement and stretching, to a number of musical events, to current events programs, to bingo. There are many out trips available - one might head to the mall for some shopping, have lunch at a local restaurant, or take the boat to Island Beach. Worship services arranged by Greenwich Chaplaincy Services are very well attended. The weekly cocktail party with musical entertainment is one of the most popular offerings, and special events dot each month's calendar.
Many of the events offered by the Therapeutic Recreation department are facilitated by a dedicated group of volunteers. Their helping hands make a significant contribution to the recreation program. Anyone wishing to join the ranks of valued volunteers can call Sally Van Leeuwen at 618-4228."
