Municipal Fines for Wetlands Violations Proposed
The Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency is in the process of requesting the Board of Selectman to approve an ordinance granting the Town through the Agency, the ability to issue "citations" for violations of its regulations. The fines range from $500 to $1,000. The proposed ordinance also requires the approval of the RTM.
Proposed Enforcement Ordinance
The Agency intends the ordinance to address repeat, egregious or commercial violators of wetland regulations. The ordinance is in accordance with Section 22a-42g of the Connecticut General Statutes and includes both procedure for issuing citations and the mechanism by which a citation may be appealed.
The Agency held a Public Hearing on November 28, 2005 to solicit input on the idea of establishing a municipal fine for violations of wetland regulations. The enclosed ordinance incorporates input from the Public Hearing and was unanimously approved by the Agency at a public meeting on December 19, 2005.
