News:

UPDATE: Tropical Storm Nicole
As of 12:00 PM today, First Selectman Peter Tesei opened the Town's Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The EOC was opened in response to reports from the State Department of Emergency Management (DEMHS) that our area may have a significant storm event later today. The event is comparable to the storm that we experienced last March. Weather forecasts for today call for high winds beginning at 2:00 PM and intensifying throughout the night. Heavy rains will also arrive later in the afternoon and are expected to reach levels of up to 1 to 2" per hour. Total accumulation may reach 6".

The Town has been working since last night on preparations to minimize damage that we may experience. Town crews and equipment in Public Works, Parks and Recreation and our Tree Division are ready and have planned for this event. Coordination with CL&P has occurred and is ongoing. CL&P has also brought in extra crews and equipment to address problems that may occur. Steps have also been taken to ready our emergency shelter at the Western Greenwich Civic Center in case it is needed. Mr. Tesei held his first meeting with the town's emergency preparedness team this morning to review what has occurred and to assure that we are as prepared as possible. Mr. Tesei also taped an emergency message that was sent over our Reverse 911 system early this afternoon to alert our community of the pending situation.

All residents are encouraged to stay off of the roads this afternoon and evening. Conditions may become hazardous quickly once the full force of the storm arrives. If you are out during the storm please be alert to the danger of falling trees and avoid all down wires.

We ask that all residents monitor local conditions through the local media and especially on WGCH 1490 AM radio, Cablevision's Channel 12, and the Town's website, www.greenwichct.org. The Town will distribute and post updates of the latest situation and material as it becomes available.

If you have an emergency please call 911. All other storm related calls please call Public Safety Dispatch at 203-622-8003.
