Services are provided for Greenwich residents over 55 and/or with members of their immediate family. These services are provided by trained social workers, case managers, and additional professional social service staff every weekday at Town Hall. On Monday and Wednesday morning the Department also offers social work services at the Senior Center. Home visits are easily arranged for those who are unable or prefer not to travel to Town Hall. Services include:
- Protective Services for people 60 and over who are in danger of experiencing or who are experiencing exploitation, abuse, neglect or self-neglect.
- Assistance with the petition application process to the Probate Court for those who may need a conservator.
- In-home psychosocial assessments to determine individual functioning levels and assist seniors and/or their families with developing plans of care for Homemaker case management.
- Help with applications for benefit and entitlement programs: Social Security; SSI; Medicare; Medicaid; ConnPace; Energy Assistance; Operation Fuel; Renter’s Rebate; Veteran’s Benefits, and others.
- Assistance with referrals and applications for subsidized housing, assisted living residences, nursing homes, respite and adult day care, and the State Home Care for Elders programs.
- Provide information about advanced directives: a living will; power of attorney; health care proxy, and other issues.
- Linkages, to community agencies, including referrals.
- Education and counseling about issues that affect the lives of seniors and their families, i.e. caregiver stress, home safety, and cognitive changes.
- Advocacy
Escorted Transportation Program: The Department provides escorted transportation services to senior and disabled individuals who are clients of the Department. The service includes, and is not limited to, transportation to medical and legal appointments, Neighbor-to-Neighbor food delivery, benefit application appointments, and language interpretation. Transportation is also available to clients who attend language classes offered by the Department.

Homemaker Service Unit assists Greenwich residents who have difficulty with everyday activities or need help during times of illness or disability. Service is available to families as well as disabled and elderly residents. No one is denied service because of inability to pay. Homemakers can perform:

- Homemaker-Only Service – Assistance with dressing and bathing; light housekeeping; laundry; shopping, meal preparation; and temporary childcare. Sliding scale fee. Referrals taken from all sources. Clients must be willing to conform to service policies and limitations.

Escorted Transportation Program:
The Department provides escorted transportation services to senior clients, those who are mentally ill and disabled individuals of all ages who are clients of the Department. The services include transportation to medical appointments, Neighbor-to-Neighbor food delivery, and other shopping.
