Another Sneaker Bonanza!
The Greenwich Recycling Advisory Board is pleased to report the success of the sixth annual used sneaker collection which ran from mid-March through April 2011 and garnered over one and a half tons of shoes – estimated at around 3,000 pairs. Of the better quality shoes, 850 pairs were separated and have been donated to shelters in Harlem, Bridgeport, Norwalk and Port Chester as well as to Neighbor to Neighbor. The bulk will be ground up and used to create athletic tracks and playground surfaces through the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program.
We thank all who supported this spring tradition of keeping sneakers out of the waste stream.
