 Marine Operations provides law enforcement, emergency medical services and general assistance to boaters within Town waters. The Town of Greenwich is bordered by 31 miles of coastline.
The Marine Operations is staffed on a seasonal basis and supervised by One Sergeant with One Marine Technician and five Marine Officers, all of who are under the overall command of the Operations Captain.
The current police vessel built by NorthRiver Boats, of Roseburg Oregon, was placed into service in October of 2009. The Vessel is 28’ feet long and has a 10’ Foot beam. It is a rigid hull inflatable, powered by twin 250hp outboard motors. This state of the art vessel is designed for both patrol operations and EMS patient transportation. The vessel is equipped with the state of the art navigation and safety equipment.
In addition, The Greenwich Police Marine section, operates a second patrol boat. This impressive vessel was built by Hike Metal Products and Shipbuilding Limited, Wheatley Ontario Canada. It was placed in service in September 2002.
The vessel is 34' feet long with a 12' beam.. The vessel is powered by twin 440hp, Yanmar turbo diesel engines which are coupled to Hamilton jet drives.
The vessel is equipped with state of the art navigation equipment for all weather operations and equipped for search and rescue operations.
The vessel is also designed to accommodate the department's divers in diving operations.
Greenwich Police Marine Operations, is tasked with the enforcement of laws pertaining to the marine environment, as well as the protection of our coastline and critical infrastructure.
Scuba Team
The Greenwich Police Scuba Team was formed in 1959 by former Chief David Robbins. It is the oldest Police Scuba Team in the State of Connecticut. The team has 11 members who are trained in underwater search and rescue as well as surface and underwater ice rescue. The Team does periodic demonstrations of their skills upon request.
