The Special Victims Section consists of a Detective Sergeant, five Detectives, and the School Resource Officer. Each Detective is assigned as a liaison with the public and private schools within the Town. All of the members of the Special Victims Section are dedicated to the investigation of cases that are, unfortunately, often both disturbing and distressing.
Members assigned to this section investigate crimes committed by and against children, child and adult sexual abuse, crimes against the elderly, crimes committed against individuals with special needs, runaway, and missing persons. The members continually receive specialized training which gives those skills and experience needed to carefully investigate these crimes and to arrest offenders in an effort to make our community a safer place in which to live.
The section focuses on the victims. Prevention efforts are conducted on a regular basis in order to educate parents, their children, and the community in hope to lessen their chance of being a victim. Education of the public with respect to the unique dynamics of sexual abuse and child and elderly predators is a major focus of the section.
Currently, Detectives assigned to the Special Victims Section are capable of giving presentations to parent groups, school groups, or other community groups on a variety of topics. Internet Safety, Cyber Bullying, Stranger Danger, and Risky Behaviors are a few of the topics that can be presented. These presentations can be done within the new police headquarters or can be presented at the location of a groups meeting place.
School Resource Officer
In the year 2007 the Town of Greenwich Police Department in partnership with the Board of Education established a School Resource Officer program.
The SRO program is community based and involves the introduction and placement of a fully trained Greenwich Police Officer with the Greenwich High School
The SRO program has been in existence since the fall of 2007 and has resulted in a positive experience for the students, faculty members and police.
