The Detective Division is staffed two shifts, seven days a week.
The Division consists of one Captain, one Lieutenant, five Sergeants and twenty-two Detectives of which five are assigned to the Special Victims Section, three Court Liaison Officers and one Administrative Assistant.
Detectives investigate cases related, but not limited to:
- Arson
- Auto Theft
- Burglary
- Child Abuse
- Computer & Technology Related Crime
- Homicide
- Missing Persons
- Narcotics
- Robbery
- Sexual Assault
The Forensics Investigations Section and Special Victims Section are located within the Detective Division, in addition to specialty units that concentrate on arson, auto theft and burglary investigations. All personnel have been extensively trained in specialty areas and many have been trained in Practical Homicide Investigation by Vernon J. Geberth, Retired Lieutenant Commander, N.Y.P.D. Homicide Division.
Besides their investigative duties, Detectives assigned to the Special Victims Section speak at all local schools and conduct tours of the Police Department for local youth-related groups such as Cub Scouts, Brownies, etc. If you would like to invite a Detective to speak, call Sgt.
