Community Impact Section

The Community Impact Section, formerly Known as the Neighborhood Resource Section, was created in 2004 and is based upon Community Policing principles. It enlists involvement from its citizens within the community in an effort to form a partnership toward addressing quality of life issues. The town’s citizens and shop owners play a major role in the direction and decision making of community-based projects. The Community Impact Section (CIS) facilitates the community with a problem-oriented approach that seeks out the root causes of a problem and then creates ways to solve them.

The CIS falls under the command of the Captain of Operations. It consists of three (3) Community Impact Officers (CIO’s) who are directly supervised by 1 CIO Supervisor (Sgt.).

The Community Impact Officer (CIO) coordinates the services of various governmental and private agencies in an effort to resolve identified problems within the community. By doing so, they establish better community relationships.

In 2005 CIO’s formed CAPP (Citizen and Police Partnership) groups to better serve the community. These groups meet on a monthly basis and work together with the CIO's in identifying and solving community issues is different areas of town.

In 2006 under the direction of Captain Ridberg the Community Impact Section created the Greenwich Avenue Initiative facilitating a safe environment for youth activities. Captain Ridberg is currently the Chief of the Greenwich Police Department and has been instrumental in the creation and further developing Community Impact Section

In 2007, the Community Impact Section expanded its efforts to include Crime Analysis and the investigation of Crime Sprees.

In 2008 the tremendous success of the Section vaulted them from community problem solvers into a larger role where they now investigate all larcenies from vehicles. It is not uncommon for the Community Impact Section to work alongside with other sections in an effort to assist in their investigations.

The Greenwich Police Departments Community Impact Section continues to serve the citizens of the town of Greenwich in various ways that have had a positive effect on the community.
