Frequently Asked Questions

Nathaniel Witherell

Q. "If I send e-mail, who will see it?"
A. E-mail will be confidential. The address is solely used by the Admissions Office.

Q. "Who pays for nursing home care?"
A. You present the circumstances. We'll help interpret the system. The Nathaniel Witherell is licensed to care for Medicare and Medicaid recipients. We provide education and assistance relative to application for State assistance via the Title 19/Medicaid Program. We work as well with a multitude of insurance providers.

Q. "Is there a waiting list?"
A. Yes, we do have a waiting list. Due to third-party reimbursement, the admissions process is subject to regulatory statutes. No application can be given out without being logged with an inquiry receipt. Waiting list placement is chronological once a completed application has been submitted.

Q. "What constitutes a 'completed application'?"
A. A completed application includes personal history, a medical profile and information relative to source of payment.

Q. "How long is the waiting list?"
A. Many applicants seek waiting list placement in order to avoid crisis management if an urgent need arises. Most of our admissions come from the hospital... sometimes from the emergency room or following a brief hospital stay. Most often we are able to admit someone within a day. If an application is "on the waiting list" it reduces stress for the person needing admission and for their family.

Q. "Is The Nathaniel Witherell for Greenwich residents only?"
A. The original charter for the Witherell is built around the mission to provide services to Greenwich residents. However, this practice is not to the exclusion of other applicants.

Q. "Does Nathaniel Witherell care for persons with dementia?"
A. Yes, we offer specialized programming for residents with dementia.

Q. "Why should Nathaniel Witherell be considered the finest Skilled Nursing Care?"
A. The longevity of our staff speaks clearly to the fact that employees are satisfied working for the Town of Greenwich. At Nathaniel Witherell staff assignments are permanent for duration of each resident's length of stay. This enhances not only the rapport the residents enjoy with staff members, but promotes members of the staff, job satisfaction. It assures accountability and significantly impacts on the quality of care. Changes of conditions are addressed timely because the staffs know the residents. Timely medical interventions reduce medical complications, falls and other injuries.

NOTE: If you have additional questions about admissions, please contact Susan Welsh by email or phone (203) 618-4200.
