Frequently Asked Questions

Voter Registration

Q. How do I register to vote?
A. You can downlod an application to vote here, call the Registrars' Office at (203) 622-7890 to request an application (which will be mailed to you), or you can stop in the Registrars' Office at Town Hall, located on the first floor, to get an application. The office is open Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Q. How can I change my party affiliation?
A. You must fill out a new application to vote and indicate the party with which you want to affiliate.

If you are a Democrat or Republican and want to change parties, it takes three months from the date you apply until your new party affiliation is effective. If you are an unaffiliated voter and want to register as a Democrat or Republican, complete the voter registration form and your new affiliation is effective immediately.

Q. Who can vote in a primary election?
A. Only registered voters affiliated with a political party can vote in that party's election. For example, if you are a registered Democrat, you can vote only in a Democratic primary. Unaffiliated voters cannot vote in any primary election.

Q. How can I help out on election day?
A. If you are completing a voter registration form, check off the box on the application that you are interesting in helping. If you already are registered to vote and want to help, just call the Registrars' Office at (203) 622-7890.
