Late Blight on Tomato Crops Officials at UConn have confirmed that tomato and potato crops in Connecticut are being severely impacted by late blight. This is the same disease that caused the Irish potato famine in the 1800s. Once plants are infected there is little the home gardener can do to stop blight. All plant materials, including roots, should be double bagged and disposed of with household waste, as all trash in Greenwich is incinerated. Plants should not be composted. Soils do not have to be treated if all vegetation is removed.
