Town Prepares for Hurricane Katrina Response
First Selectman Jim Lash said today that Greenwich is closely working with the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security on aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Numerous inquiries have been made to Greenwich Town Agencies regarding out what the town can do to assist with the relief efforts in the Gulf Coast.
At the direction of Mr. James Thomas Commissioner of the Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security the Town Of Greenwich and other Connecticut Municipalities will provide his agency with a list of resources that, if needed, could be sent to the disaster area. The State of Connecticut has already dispatched requested equipment, such as helicopters and heavy moving equipment to the Gulf Coast area.
The State Emergency Management agency said cash contributions are preferred and may be made to any of the following agencies: The American Red Cross, Americares, and the Salvation Army.

Lash said he understands the situation with the current conditions in New Orleans having lived there in 1969 during Hurricane Camille which did far less damage.
He said 'I want to assure Greenwich residents that the town of Greenwich will do whatever is asked of us to assist the disaster areas'.
Lash said 'the town's web site, www.greenwichct.org, will be updated with new information as we receive it'.
